Session 11
I first became interested in Ann Cummins’s work when I met her during the ecstatic blur that constituted my first trip to the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference several years ago. And when her bold novel Yellow Cake came out I realized we had both grown up in New Mexico. So when Lively Words got going last year, I knew I had to ask her to record a session.
If you’ve ever been to the UC Berkeley campus, you know that it’s an amazing place filled with rolling lawns, stately buildings, and towering trees. Undaunted by the rain, Ann and I went there to record recently. We found an alcove in front of the biochemistry building and set up. In this session, Ann reads “Where I Work,” an excellent, often-anthologized short story. Enjoy.
